Founded in 2013 by Peter Kolks, the Pop Trading Company is a “skateboarding” brand that makes a lot of clothes and accessories for skaters and is loved by them. Pop Trading Company shares many similarities with Vans, and the European brand has finally come together as a “skateboard” and Vans for the first time.
Much of 2018 has passed and very few “co-branded collections really for skaters” have been seen, but a co-branded collection by Pop Trading Company x Vans definitely deserves the title. Peter Kolks, founder, said of the partnership: “in the early and mid-90s, we liked Vans’ Chukka Boot and Old Skool [Style 36] best, with their simple canvas and suede body. So when we decided to pay homage to that era, we chose them.
As a joint sign of Pro Skate’s professional Skate line, the three pairs of shoes are equipped with UltraCush HD professional cushioning insoles, providing cushioning protection for the hands and feet, and providing exceptional comfort for everyday wear. The shape of the shoe body is very simple. Pop Trading Company’s simple brand logo is embroidered on the heel of the shoe with the same color matching as the shoe style. The outer side of the outsole package is also printed with the full English name of the brand in a three-dimensional raised pattern.
Salman Agah Pro, Vans’ signature shoe for the legendary slider and namesake Salman Agah, was created in 1994 and brought back by Vans. It has a retro look, with a white outsole with a meniscus vamp attached to the edge, and a medium-long coat of dark purple suede covering the body. Black is used for the inside, tongue and LACES, and the tongue is represented by a blue, red and white elephant — Salman Agah’s famous personal symbol.
Chukka Boot Pro is not as “well-known” and representative as other classic shoe styles, but it has a mid-top shape, which greatly improves the flexibility of the ankle when doing moves compared with the high help, while the low help can provide appropriate protection for the ankle, so it is favored by hardcore skaters. The Pop Trading Company USES dark blue corduroy for its Chukka Boot Pro collaboration, with details ranging from the inside to shoelaces covered in dark blue, and only the distinctive yellow and black Vans logo sewn into the neckline.
This year, the popularity of Style 36 has been exposed more than ever before. The Pop Trading Company does not use the shoes to “go with the trend” but rather to pay homage to a shoe it used to like. That’s why the first Pro Skate Pro Skate version of the Style 36 Pro, which can be used for skateboarding, was born. The entire body was covered in opal, restoring the classic look of chamois before and after and side canvas in memory. It was also made of long chamois leather with a more retro material.
