British rocker David Bowie’s collaboration in a series of teaser photos and trailers yesterday is particularly striking given the amount of information that can be gleaned from reading it. Undoubtedly, David Bowie is one of the most influential artists in pop culture. Although he is dead, his bold and innovative spirit in the field of art has exerted a lasting and profound influence on today’s music, fashion and cultural industries.
The four most iconic albums of David Bowie’s life: “Space Oddity,” “Hunky Dory,” “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars” and “Aladdin Sane” were all incorporated into The collaboration, which became The four Slip On 47 V DX, Era, Old Skool and sk8-hi that Vans used to honor The legendary immortal.
The slipon-47 V DX comes from the cover of the album Hunky Dory. The toe heel is covered in a black and white checkered faux fur with a yellow suede center.
The Vans Era is inspired by David Bowie’s 1969 hit, “Space Oddity. “the shoes are defined by the “Space” logo on the outsole, which evokes the album cover.
Both Old Skool and sk8-hi were inspired by Ziggy Stardust, with David Bowie’s iconic lightning pattern used throughout the shoe. Old Skool is made of white leather, with the name “David Bowie” running down from top to bottom, from blue to red. Sk8-hi USES a black and white checker pattern on the side of a classic black and white shoe, and USES “Bowie” and lightning as embroidery.
The David Bowie x Vans co-branded line will be available in stores around the world starting April 5. The shoes will cost between $65 and $80.
