Mastermind JAPAN, one of the world’s leading brands, has partnered with Vans to launch a number of successful products since its strong return in 2016. Over the next two years, the two sides have successively brought four or five joint ventures, which fully demonstrate the dark style featured by mastermind JAPAN. The upcoming joint venture is no exception.
This is not the first time that mmJ has used sk8-hi Zip, a high-top shoe style, and it was actually found in the work returned by both parties in 2016. But this time mmJ kept the Vans classic combination of ‘suede + canvas’ and covered it all in black to match mastermind JAPAN’s look.
The front of the outsole edge, shoelaces and Sidestripe are filled with white, and the sides of the canvas shoes are filled with mastermind JAPAN’s representative skeleton pattern, which is presented in white. The traditionally Japanese side zippers have also been moved to the traditional heel.
The design of the back side of the outsole edge is consistent with the previous joint design of the two sides — it is presented in the same black color as the shoe body, while the outside side is printed with the English “mastermind JAPAN” with a three-dimensional projection, which is no longer highlighted in white. Mastermind JAPAN’s iconic translucent sole design continues to be used this time, with Vans’ classic black-and-white checker pattern barely visible above the midsole.
The joint also brought a long – sleeved hoodies. The same dark design was used for the shoes: black, with the Vans Logo, checkerboard pattern and mastermind JAPAN’s classic skull pattern printed on both cuffs in turn, and both logos added to the front of the hoodie.
Mastermind JAPAN x Vans 2018 winter joint collection will be officially launched on December 14. The sk8-hi price is 19440 JPY (tax included), and the sweater price is 12960 JPY (tax included).
