Since its opening, every piece of Modernica’s 25-year history has been made in a five-acre Los Angeles campus, which like earlier Vans brands is family-owned and operated. This year Modernica will be collaborating for the first time with the Vans Vault premium side line in a crossover that brings together California’s typical artisan ethos, regional flavor, and design aesthetics.
Two classic vintage shoe types from the Vans Vault premium line will be the co-branded pair: OG Style 36 LX and OG Slip On LX. Combine palm leaf, checkerboard pattern and Hawaiian plant, which are representative of California, with white, black and orange colors respectively, and blend them into two pairs of shoe shapes to match six pairs of joint shoe styles.
This rare and wide-ranging collaboration isn’t limited to the Vans Vault shoe line: Modernica has been working to revitalize high-pressure fiberglass forming — an ancient technology that is now almost forgotten in the industry — and Modernica’s factory insists on producing thousands of chairs using this process. After three generations, the classic Modernica fiberglass chairs will also be presented in the joint design, with three chairs equipped with the same pattern on the shoe style.
