At the end of the 1980s, the fall of the Berlin Wall unified Germany. A year later, the city regained status as the nation’s political capital. Simultaneously, its status as a cultural center was blossoming. Now Nike takes a historic trip to Germany with the Air Max 180 “BLN.” Featuring neon shades of green and pink underneath a grey mesh, the fusion was created as an ode to the juxtaposition of Berlin’s celebrated club life and brutalist architecture. With an outsole combination of black, neon green and transparent white, the words “UNITY” and “FREEDOM” are plastered in all caps as a reminder of music’s power in bringing people together, and Berlin’s club scene that accepts everyone for who they are.
The Nike Air Max 180 BLN launches on Air Max Day in Berlin retailers only, and on March 30 on the SNEAKRS app in the rest of Europe.
Nike was founded in 1964 as Blue Ribbon Sports and initially operated as a distributor for the Japanese shoemaker Onitsuka Tiger (now known as Asics).
