Last summer, the Vans Vault high-end offshoot debuted a “Cut & Paste” deconstruction line, and in the fall, it closed with a “Inside Out” collection. More recently, Vans Classics Classics reintroduced the “Cut & Paste” line as a classic shoe, just like last year. The classic Classics Classics line was followed by today’s version, “Outside In, “which is a classic version of “Inside Out.”
The classic “Outside In” project has an opposite name to the high-end “Inside Out” project, but it continues an earlier special design of “Inside Out” — an imaginative design co-opted by BEAMS In 2017. This collaboration brings us new shoes modeled On sk8-hi, Era, and Slip-On. The collection is dominated by white with blue and red accents.
Three pairs of shoes were made with white canvas with the same color leather body: Era and slipon-filled leather only at the lace collar, sk8-hi upper was later covered with leather, and other parts were all presented with the white canvas commonly used in the inner part of the shoe. Blue Outlines the boot’s waterline, while also appearing On the Era, slip-on tongue rims, and a closer look reveals the looming red lining.
As the classic shoe was turned inside out, the sides of the three pairs were printed with information that should have appeared inside, such as the size. This information was also displayed on the tongue of the shoe. To give the shoe a more original feel, Vans also used the mimeographed size instead of the normal size label. The silver metal lacing eyelet is fixed on the Era lacing eyelet, and the white lacing is matched with the stitching and other details. The Slip-On elastic band is sewn directly into the upper.
